Ingredients

  • 500 g Whole wheat flour
  • 300 ml Warm water
  • 1 tsp Active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Honey
  • 2 tbsp Sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, combine the warm water, active dry yeast, and honey. Stir gently and let sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, add the whole wheat flour and salt. Mix to combine.

Step 3

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the yeast mixture along with 1 tablespoon of olive oil.

Step 4

Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until a soft dough forms.

Step 5

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.

Step 6

Grease a bowl with 1 teaspoon of olive oil, place the dough in the bowl, turning it around to coat it with the oil. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth or plastic wrap.

Step 7

Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 8

Preheat the oven to 220°C (428°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 9

Punch down the dough to release the air. Divide it into 8 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.

Step 10

On a floured surface, roll each dough ball into a disc about 1/4 inch thick.

Step 11

Place the discs on the prepared baking sheet, brush lightly with remaining olive oil, and sprinkle sesame seeds over the top.

Step 12

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the breads are golden brown and puffed.

Step 13

Remove from the oven and let cool slightly on a wire rack before serving.
