Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 cup Olive oil
  • 0.5 cup Unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 cup Honey
  • 0.5 cup Low-fat buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 large Egg

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a donut pan with a bit of olive oil.

Step 2

In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a separate medium-sized bowl, whisk the olive oil, unsweetened applesauce, and honey until well combined.

Step 4

Add the buttermilk and vanilla extract into the wet mixture and mix until smooth.

Step 5

Beat the egg in a small bowl and then add to the wet ingredients. Stir until fully combined.

Step 6

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the wet mixture into it. Mix gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix to avoid tough donuts.

Step 7

Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about 3/4 full.

Step 8

Bake for 8-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into one of the donuts comes out clean and the tops spring back when lightly touched.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let the donuts cool in the pan for about 5 minutes.

Step 10

Transfer the donuts to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
