Ingredients

  • 1 pound Lean ground turkey
  • 0.5 cup Oats
  • 1 large Egg white
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.5 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 4 Whole-grain burger buns
  • 4 Lettuce leaves
  • 1 medium Tomato, sliced
  • 1 Avocado, sliced

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, oats, egg white, minced garlic, chopped onion, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, and salt.

Step 2

Mix the ingredients together gently with your hands or a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix as this can make the burgers tough.

Step 3

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty, making sure they are of even thickness to ensure even cooking.

Step 4

Preheat a non-stick skillet or a grill pan over medium heat and lightly coat with olive oil.

Step 5

Place the patties on the skillet or grill pan and cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and they are browned on the outside.

Step 6

Remove from the heat and let them rest for a couple of minutes.

Step 7

While the burgers are resting, lightly toast the whole-grain burger buns in the same pan or toaster.

Step 8

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by a turkey patty, slices of tomato, avocado, and finally the top half of the bun.

Step 9

Optionally, you can add heart-healthy toppings such as spinach, sprouts, or a drizzle of Greek yogurt for added flavor.

Step 10

Serve immediately and enjoy your heart-healthy turkey burgers!
