Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • 0.5 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 large egg white
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 0 cooking spray
  • 4 whole grain buns
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1 avocado, sliced
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 0.25 cup low-sodium ketchup
  • 0.25 cup dijon mustard

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, oats, egg white, garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and chopped parsley. Mix thoroughly using your hands until all the ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty about 1/2 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat a large non-stick skillet or a grill over medium heat and lightly coat with cooking spray.

Step 4

Place the patties in the skillet or on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the patties are fully cooked.

Step 5

While the patties are cooking, prepare the toppings. Slice the tomato and avocado, and wash the lettuce leaves thoroughly.

Step 6

Toast the whole grain buns lightly if desired.

Step 7

Once the patties are cooked, assemble the burgers: place a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, then add a turkey patty, followed by slices of tomato and avocado. Add about 1 tablespoon of low-sodium ketchup and 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard to each, then top with the other half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately and enjoy your heart-healthy big tasty burger!
