Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 can (20 oz) crushed pineapple (drained)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups shredded sweetened coconut

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and salt until light and fluffy. Gradually mix in the flour until the dough comes together.

Step 3

Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish to form the crust. Use your hands or the back of a spoon to flatten it evenly.

Step 4

Bake the crust in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes or until lightly golden around the edges. Remove and set aside to cool slightly.

Step 5

In another bowl, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Step 6

Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the baked crust.

Step 7

Evenly distribute the drained crushed pineapple over the cream cheese layer.

Step 8

Sprinkle the shredded coconut over the pineapple layer to cover it completely.

Step 9

Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 10–12 minutes, or until the coconut is lightly golden and toasted.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and allow the Hawaiian Squares to cool completely in the pan.

Step 11

Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before slicing into squares for easier handling.

Step 12

Serve chilled and enjoy your tropical treat!
