Ingredients

  • 4 pieces pork shoulder steaks
  • 1 can (20 oz) pineapple chunks (with juice)
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons green onion, chopped (optional for garnish)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

Step 1

In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the sauce.

Step 2

Place the pork shoulder steaks into the Crock Pot in an even layer.

Step 3

Add the thinly sliced onion and red bell pepper on top of the pork steaks.

Step 4

Pour the pineapple chunks with their juice over the vegetables and pork.

Step 5

Evenly drizzle the prepared sauce over the entire mixture in the Crock Pot.

Step 6

Cover and cook on LOW for 6-7 hours or on HIGH for 3-4 hours, until the pork is tender and easily pulls apart with a fork.

About 30 minutes before the cooking time is complete, mix the cornstarch with water in a small bowl to form a slurry.

Step 8

Stir the cornstarch slurry into the Crock Pot to thicken the sauce. Allow the dish to cook for the remaining time, stirring occasionally if possible.

Once done, garnish with chopped green onions if desired.

Step 10

Serve hot with steamed rice, or on its own with a side of your choice.
