Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 0.5 pound shrimp, finely chopped
  • 1 medium white onion, finely chopped
  • 0.5 cup water chestnuts, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 stalks green onions, finely sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 36 pieces wonton wrappers
  • 0.25 cup water (for sealing wrappers)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground pork, chopped shrimp, white onion, water chestnuts, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, green onions, and cornstarch.

Step 2

Mix thoroughly by hand or with a spoon until all ingredients are evenly distributed and the mixture is cohesive.

Step 3

Lay out the wonton wrappers on a work surface. Place about 1 tablespoon of the pork mixture in the center of each wrapper.

Step 4

Dip your finger into the water and moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper. Bring the edges up around the filling, pinching them gently to form a dumpling with an open top.

Step 5

Repeat this process until all the pork mixture is used. Cover the completed dumplings with a damp towel to keep them from drying out.

Step 6

Line a steamer basket with parchment paper or a layer of cabbage leaves to prevent sticking. Place the dumplings in the basket, making sure they do not touch each other.

Step 7

Bring a pot of water to a boil and set the steamer basket over the pot. Cover with a lid and steam the dumplings for 15-20 minutes or until the filling is fully cooked (internal temperature should reach 160°F).

Step 8

Carefully remove the dumplings from the steamer and serve hot with soy sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.
