Ingredients

  • 4 cups Canned navy beans
  • 6 slices Bacon
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 0.25 cup Molasses
  • 0.5 cup Ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Apple cider vinegar
  • 1 medium (finely diced) Onion
  • 2 cloves (minced) Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Step 2

In a large oven-safe skillet or casserole dish, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set it aside. Leave about 1 tablespoon of bacon fat in the pan.

Step 3

Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté for 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to low. Stir in the brown sugar, molasses, ketchup, yellow mustard, and apple cider vinegar. Mix well until the ingredients are fully combined.

Step 5

Gently fold in the navy beans, ensuring they are thoroughly coated with the sauce. Crumble the cooked bacon and add it to the mixture for extra flavor.

Step 6

Season the beans with smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Stir everything together until evenly mixed.

Step 7

Transfer the skillet or dish to the preheated oven. Bake uncovered for 75-90 minutes, stirring halfway through to prevent sticking and to ensure even cooking.

Step 8

Remove the beans from the oven and let them rest for 10 minutes. The sauce will thicken slightly as it cools.

Step 9

Serve warm as a side dish or enjoy on its own with crusty bread.
