Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 small head green cabbage, chopped
  • 14.5 ounces canned diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cups white rice, cooked

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 3

Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, Italian seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes.

Step 5

In a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, place an even layer of the chopped cabbage.

Step 6

Spread the cooked white rice evenly over the cabbage layer.

Step 7

Pour the ground beef and tomato mixture over the rice and cabbage. Use a spatula to spread it evenly.

Step 8

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 9

Remove the foil, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the casserole, and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 10

Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. Serve warm and enjoy!
