Ingredients

  • 1 lb ham steak
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 ripe pears
  • 2 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Peel, core, and slice the pears into thin wedges. Set them aside.

Step 2

Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 3

Season the ham steak lightly with salt and black pepper, then place it in the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned and heated through. Remove the ham steak and keep it warm by covering it with foil.

Step 4

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter.

Step 5

Add the pear slices to the skillet, spreading them out evenly. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they start to soften.

Step 6

Sprinkle the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg over the pears. Drizzle the lemon juice over the top and stir gently to coat the pears in the mixture.

Step 7

Continue cooking the pears for 4-5 minutes until they are caramelized and tender, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Step 8

Return the ham steak to the skillet, nestling it among the pears. Spoon some of the pear mixture over the top of the ham and cook for an additional 2 minutes to combine the flavors.

Step 9

Transfer the ham steak to a serving dish and spoon the pear topping over it. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Step 10

Serve immediately and enjoy!
