Ingredients

  • 12 ounces wide egg noodles
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 1 medium head green cabbage
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoons garlic powder (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the egg noodles according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 2

While the noodles cook, core the cabbage and chop it into bite-sized pieces. Dice the onion into small pieces.

Step 3

In a large skillet or Dutch oven, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes, until softened and translucent.

Step 4

Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook the cabbage, stirring occasionally, for 15-20 minutes, until it softens and caramelizes slightly.

Step 5

Season the cabbage and onion mixture with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder (if using). Stir to combine.

Step 6

In the same pot used to boil the noodles (or a large mixing bowl), combine the cooked noodles with the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Stir until the noodles are lightly coated.

Step 7

Add the sautéed cabbage and onion mixture to the pot with the noodles. Toss everything together until well mixed and heated through.

Step 8

Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley if desired.
