Ingredients

  • 1 large English cucumber
  • 2 tablespoons White vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons Sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 tablespoons Fresh dill
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 cup Red onion

Directions

Step 1

Start by washing the cucumber thoroughly under cold water. Using a mandoline or a sharp knife, slice the cucumber into very thin, even slices. Place the sliced cucumbers in a large bowl.

Step 2

Dice the red onion finely and add it to the bowl of cucumbers.

Step 3

In a separate small mixing bowl, whisk together the white vinegar, sour cream, granulated sugar, salt, and black pepper until the dressing is smooth and the sugar is dissolved.

Step 4

Chop the fresh dill finely and stir half of it into the dressing mixture.

Step 5

Pour the dressing over the sliced cucumbers and onions. Gently toss until the cucumbers are evenly coated with the dressing.

Step 6

Let the salad sit in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. It can also be chilled for up to a couple of hours if preferred.

Step 7

Before serving, give the salad a final toss, then sprinkle with the remaining fresh dill for garnish. Adjust the seasoning with additional salt or pepper to taste if needed.

Step 8

Serve chilled and enjoy your refreshing Gurkensalat as a side dish or a light appetizer.
