Ingredients

  • 1 lb medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 lb lump crab meat
  • 3 cups white rice, cooked
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 celery stalks, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tsp Old Bay seasoning
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish and set aside.

Step 2

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, celery, and minced garlic. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

Step 3

Stir in the flour to coat the vegetables and cook for about 1-2 minutes to eliminate the raw flour taste. Gradually whisk in the chicken broth and heavy cream, stirring constantly to create a creamy sauce.

Step 4

Season the sauce with Old Bay seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and allow it to thicken, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 5

Gently fold in the cooked white rice, shrimp, crab meat, and fresh parsley. Mix until the seafood is evenly distributed in the sauce.

Step 6

Pour the mixture into the prepared casserole dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.

Step 7

In a small bowl, combine breadcrumbs with olive oil until evenly coated. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the cheese layer.

Step 8

Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.

Step 9

Let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with additional chopped parsley if desired.
