Ingredients

  • 4 medium Apples (firm and sweet, such as Golden Delicious or Honeycrisp)
  • 180 grams All-purpose flour
  • 120 grams Granulated sugar
  • 125 grams Unsalted butter (softened)
  • 60 ml Milk (room temperature)
  • 3 large Eggs
  • 1.5 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and flour a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan, or line it with parchment paper.

Step 2

Peel, core, and thinly slice the apples. Set them aside while you prepare the batter.

Step 3

In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy using an electric mixer or a whisk.

Step 4

Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Fold half of the apple slices into the batter, distributing them evenly.

Step 7

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Arrange the remaining apple slices decoratively on top of the batter.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and the top is golden brown.

Step 9

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Optionally, dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar before serving. Slice and enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee!
