Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 12 oz chow mein noodles
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 large carrot
  • 2 cups green cabbage
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 0.25 cup water
  • 2 stalks green onions
  • 0.25 tsp white pepper

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the chow mein noodles and cook according to the package instructions. Drain the noodles and set aside.

Step 2

In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, and water to create the sauce. Set aside.

Step 3

Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it into small crumbles with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat, if necessary, and transfer the cooked beef to a plate.

Step 4

In the same skillet, heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant. Then, add the sliced onion and julienned carrot. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften.

Step 5

Add the shredded cabbage and bean sprouts to the skillet. Stir-fry for another 2 minutes until the vegetables are tender but still crisp.

Step 6

Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet and mix well with the vegetables. Sprinkle in the white pepper, if using.

Step 7

Add the cooked chow mein noodles to the skillet and pour the prepared sauce over the top. Toss everything together until the noodles are evenly coated and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 8

Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve hot and enjoy!
