Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs sirloin steak
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 tbsp lime juice
  • 1 tsp lime zest
  • 0.5 tsp red chili flakes
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 0.25 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 0.25 cup unsalted peanuts, crushed (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together soy sauce, fish sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and lime zest to create the marinade.

Step 2

Place the sirloin steak in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over it. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight, to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.

Step 3

Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400°F). Lightly oil the grill grates to prevent sticking.

Step 4

Remove the steak from the marinade and let it come to room temperature for about 15 minutes. Discard the used marinade.

Step 5

Grill the steak for 5-6 minutes per side for medium-rare, or adjust based on your desired level of doneness. Use a meat thermometer to ensure it reaches 130°F for medium-rare or 145°F for medium.

Step 6

While the steak grills, prepare the tangy lime sauce by mixing lime juice, red chili flakes, and vegetable oil in a small bowl. Add green onions and cilantro for a fresh kick.

Step 7

Remove the steak from the grill and let it rest for 5-10 minutes to allow the juices to redistribute.

Step 8

Slice the steak against the grain into thin strips and arrange it on a serving platter.

Step 9

Drizzle the tangy lime sauce over the steak and garnish with crushed peanuts, additional cilantro, and lime wedges if desired.

Step 10

Serve immediately with steamed jasmine rice or a fresh green salad for a complete meal.
