Preheat your grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper. Use this marinade to coat both sides of the chicken breasts.
Trim the woody ends off the asparagus and toss the spears with 1 tablespoon of olive oil, a pinch of salt, and a pinch of black pepper.
Grill the chicken breasts for about 6-8 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Remove from the grill and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing into thin strips.
Grill the asparagus for 4-6 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender and slightly charred. Remove from the grill and cut into 2-inch pieces.
Cook the pasta in a large pot of salted boiling water according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain the pasta.
Make the parsley pesto: In a food processor, combine the parsley, Parmesan cheese, walnuts or pine nuts, garlic, 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1/4 cup olive oil, and a pinch of red pepper flakes (if using). Blend until smooth, adding more olive oil if needed to achieve your desired consistency.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta, parsley pesto, sliced grilled chicken, and grilled asparagus. Toss until everything is evenly coated, adding reserved pasta water a little at a time to loosen the sauce if needed.
Taste and season with additional salt and black pepper if necessary.
Serve immediately, garnished with extra Parmesan cheese and a sprinkle of parsley, if desired.
