Ingredients

  • 200 grams Camembert or Brie cheese
  • 4 pieces Slices of sourdough bread
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons Fig jam or honey (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons Caramelized onions (optional)
  • 1 handful Arugula or other greens (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Slice the Camembert or Brie cheese into thin layers, about 4-5mm thick, and set aside.

Step 2

Spread a thin layer of butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. This will help achieve a golden, crispy crust.

Step 3

If using fig jam, honey, or caramelized onions, spread them on the unbuttered side of two slices of bread. Add a handful of arugula if desired.

Step 4

Place the sliced cheese on top of the jam or caramelized onions, covering the bread evenly but leaving a small border to prevent overflow. Top with the remaining slices of bread, buttered side up.

Step 5

Preheat a skillet or griddle over medium-low heat. Place the sandwiches in the skillet carefully, buttered side down.

Step 6

Cook the sandwiches for about 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing gently with a spatula for even browning. Lower the heat if the bread browns too quickly before the cheese has a chance to melt.

Step 7

Once the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown and crispy, remove the sandwiches from the skillet and transfer to a cutting board.

Step 8

Allow the sandwiches to cool for 1 minute before slicing in half. Serve warm and enjoy!
