Ingredients

  • 16 large button mushrooms
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 4 oz Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, fresh and chopped
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Clean the button mushrooms gently with a damp paper towel and remove the stems. Set the caps aside and finely chop the stems.

Step 3

In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped mushroom stems and minced garlic. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened and fragrant. Remove from heat.

Step 4

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the sautéed mushroom stems, cream cheese, cooked and crumbled Italian sausage, grated Parmesan cheese, 2 tablespoons of chopped parsley, breadcrumbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

Step 5

Fill each mushroom cap with a generous amount of the stuffing mixture, pressing it in slightly to secure.

Step 6

Place the stuffed mushroom caps on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased to prevent sticking.

Step 7

Brush the tops of the stuffed mushrooms with melted butter to help them brown and become crispy.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the mushrooms are tender and the tops are golden brown.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Step 10

Garnish with additional chopped parsley if desired, and serve warm as a delicious appetizer!
