Ingredients

  • 200 grams green beans
  • 0.25 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 pieces bread slices
  • 100 grams cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon flour

Directions

Step 1

Wash and trim the green beans. Cut them into bite-sized pieces.

Step 2

Bring a pot of water to a boil, add 0.25 teaspoons of salt, and blanch the green beans for 3-4 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

Finely mince the garlic.

Step 4

In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat and sauté the garlic until fragrant. Add the green beans, a pinch of salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine, and cook for 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 5

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and stir to form a paste. Cook for 1 minute, stirring continuously.

Step 6

Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the mixture thickens. Remove from heat and stir in half of the grated cheddar cheese until melted. Set aside.

Step 7

Toast the bread slices in a toaster or on a pan until golden brown.

Step 8

Place the toasted bread on a baking sheet. Spread the prepared cheese sauce over the top of each slice.

Step 9

Distribute the sautéed green beans evenly over the cheese sauce. Sprinkle the remaining grated cheddar cheese on top.

Step 10

Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the toast and place the baking sheet under a broiler or grill for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and serve immediately, garnished with a sprinkle of black pepper if desired.
