Ingredients

  • 16 oz Elbow macaroni
  • 4 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 3 cups Whole milk
  • 1 cup Heavy cream
  • 3 cups Cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese (shredded)
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese (grated)
  • 1 tsp Ground mustard
  • 0.5 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish and set aside.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly to create a roux.

Step 4

Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream. Continue stirring over medium heat until the mixture begins to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.

Step 5

Lower the heat to medium-low and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, Gruyère cheese, and half of the Parmesan cheese. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is smooth.

Step 6

Add the ground mustard, paprika, salt, and black pepper to the cheese sauce. Mix well to combine.

Step 7

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, and stir to coat the pasta evenly.

Step 8

Transfer the macaroni and cheese mixture to the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Step 9

In a small bowl, combine the panko breadcrumbs, remaining Parmesan cheese, and olive oil. Mix until the crumbs are evenly coated.

Step 10

Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the macaroni and cheese.

Step 11

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.

Step 12

Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy Great Grammy’s creamy, cheesy, and perfectly baked macaroni and cheese!
