Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.75 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 pieces hamburger buns

Directions

Step 1

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat until melted.

Step 2

Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened.

Step 3

Add the minced garlic to the skillet and cook for another minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, until browned and fully cooked, about 6-8 minutes. Drain any excess grease if necessary.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, ground mustard, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Step 6

Simmer the mixture for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef.

Step 7

Taste and adjust seasonings as desired.

Step 8

Lightly toast the hamburger buns in a toaster or skillet for added texture.

Step 9

Spoon the beef mixture generously onto the bottom half of each hamburger bun, then top with the other half.

Step 10

Serve immediately with your favorite side dishes, such as potato chips, coleslaw, or pickles.
