Ingredients

  • 2.25 cups All-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons Ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 0.75 cup Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup Molasses
  • 1 Large egg
  • 0.25 cup Additional granulated sugar (for rolling)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground ginger, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, salt, and baking soda. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

Step 4

Add the molasses and egg to the creamed mixture, and mix until well-incorporated.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until a soft dough forms.

Step 6

Scoop 1-tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into smooth balls using your hands.

Step 7

Roll each dough ball in the additional granulated sugar to coat completely.

Step 8

Place the sugar-coated dough balls 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are set and the tops are cracked. For crispier gingersnaps, bake closer to 10 minutes.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 11

Serve and enjoy with a glass of milk or hot tea!
