Ingredients

  • 227 grams unsalted butter
  • 227 grams cream cheese
  • 240 grams all-purpose flour
  • 120 grams fruit preserves or jam of your choice
  • 30 grams powdered sugar (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and cream cheese until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Make sure both ingredients are softened to room temperature for easy mixing.

Step 2

Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the butter and cream cheese mixture, mixing just until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing to ensure the dough remains tender.

Step 3

Divide the dough into two equal portions, flatten each into a disk, and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate the dough for at least 1 hour, or until firm enough to roll out.

Step 4

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.

Step 5

On a lightly floured surface, roll out one portion of dough to about 1/8-inch thickness. Use a 2-inch square or round cookie cutter to cut out shapes.

Step 6

Place the cut-out dough pieces onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 1 inch of space between each piece.

Step 7

Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon of fruit preserves or jam into the center of each dough piece. If desired, fold opposing corners of square dough pieces toward the center and gently press to seal.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges of the cookies are lightly golden brown. Rotate the baking sheets halfway through for even baking.

Step 9

Remove the Kolacky from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheets for 2-3 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Once cooled, dust the Kolacky generously with powdered sugar before serving. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
