Ingredients

  • 7 pounds bone-in fully cooked ham
  • 1 can (20 oz) pineapple rings in juice
  • 20 pieces whole cloves
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 0.33 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 cup water

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Place the oven rack in the lower third of the oven to accommodate the size of the ham.

Step 2

Remove any plastic or mesh wrapping from the ham. If the ham has a rind, score it lightly to allow the glaze to permeate. Place the ham in a large roasting pan, flat side down.

Step 3

Using a sharp knife, score the surface of the ham in a diamond pattern. Insert a whole clove into the center of each diamond for added flavor and an attractive presentation.

Step 4

Drain the juice from the can of pineapple rings into a small bowl and set aside. Reserve the pineapple rings for later use.

Step 5

In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, butter, 1/4 cup of the pineapple juice, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves. Cook over medium heat, stirring, until the sugar has dissolved and the glaze is smooth, about 4-5 minutes.

Step 6

Pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of the roasting pan to keep the ham moist while baking. Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil, ensuring it doesn’t touch the surface of the ham.

Step 7

Bake the ham in the preheated oven for 1 1/2 hours, basting with the glaze every 20 minutes. Remove the foil during the last 30 minutes of baking to allow the glaze to caramelize.

Step 8

After 1 1/2 hours of baking, arrange the pineapple rings over the surface of the ham, securing them with toothpicks if necessary. Brush the remaining glaze generously over the ham and pineapple rings.

Step 9

Return the ham to the oven and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 140°F (60°C). The pineapple rings should be golden and slightly caramelized.

Step 10

Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before carving. Carefully remove the toothpicks used to secure the pineapple rings.

Step 11

Transfer the ham to a serving platter and slice to serve. Enjoy Grandma's Baked Christmas Ham with your favorite holiday sides!
