Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Ground pork
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.25 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 Yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 0.5 tsp Ground allspice
  • 0.25 tsp Ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 4 tbsp Butter
  • 3 tbsp Flour
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp Fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, ground allspice, ground nutmeg, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until well combined, being careful not to overmix.

Step 2

Using your hands, form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a large plate or baking sheet to keep them organized.

Step 3

In a large skillet over medium heat, melt 2 tablespoons of butter. Working in batches, cook the meatballs until browned on all sides, about 6–8 minutes total. Remove the browned meatballs and set them aside on a plate. Add more butter to the skillet if needed for subsequent batches.

Step 4

Once all the meatballs are cooked, lower the heat to medium. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet. Sprinkle in the flour and whisk continuously for 1–2 minutes to create a roux.

Step 5

Slowly add the beef broth to the skillet, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and let it thicken for 3–4 minutes.

Step 6

Stir in the heavy cream and Worcestershire sauce. Continue to cook for 2–3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

Step 7

Return the meatballs to the skillet with the sauce. Simmer on low heat for 10–12 minutes, ensuring the meatballs are heated through and the sauce is thickened.

Step 8

Serve the Swedish Meatballs warm, garnished with fresh parsley if desired. They pair wonderfully with egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or even rice.
