Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dried apricots
  • 1 cup Dried figs
  • 1 cup Dried cranberries
  • 2 large Fresh apples (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 2 large Fresh pears (peeled, cored, and sliced)
  • 2 cups Orange juice
  • 1 cup Water
  • 3 tablespoons Brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 piece Cinnamon stick
  • 0.25 teaspoons Ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 cup Slivered almonds (optional, for garnish)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the dried apricots, dried figs, and dried cranberries. Set aside.

Step 2

Peel, core, and slice the apples and pears into 1/4-inch thick slices. Add them to the bowl of dried fruits.

Step 3

In a large saucepan or Dutch oven, combine the orange juice, water, brown sugar, cinnamon stick, ground nutmeg, vanilla extract, and salt.

Step 4

Bring the liquid mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.

Step 5

Once boiling, add the mixed fresh and dried fruits to the saucepan, ensuring they are submerged in the liquid.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and cover the saucepan with a lid. Let the fruit simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the fresh fruit is tender but not mushy.

Step 7

Remove the saucepan from heat and discard the cinnamon stick. Taste and adjust sweetness or spice levels if needed.

Step 8

Transfer the fruit medley to a serving bowl or individual dishes. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Step 9

Optionally, sprinkle slivered almonds on top before serving for added crunch and garnish.
