Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups Warm water
  • 0.25 cups Honey
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 2 cups Bread flour
  • 2 cups Whole wheat flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 cups Vegetable oil

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the warm water and honey. Stir until the honey dissolves.

Step 2

Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes foamy.

Step 3

Once the yeast is activated, add the bread flour, whole wheat flour, and salt to the bowl. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.

Step 4

Add the vegetable oil and knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 5-6 minutes.

Step 5

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.

Step 6

Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a loaf and place them into two greased 8.5 x 4.5-inch loaf pans.

Step 7

Cover the pans with a towel and let the loaves rise again for 30-40 minutes, or until they have risen just above the edges of the pans.

Step 8

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 9

Bake the loaves for 25-30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.

Step 10

Remove the loaves from the pans and let cool on a wire rack before slicing. Enjoy fresh, or store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
