Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef
  • 0.5 lb Ground pork
  • 0.75 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup Milk
  • 1 Onion, finely minced
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp Ground allspice
  • 0.25 tsp Ground nutmeg
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • 3 tbsp All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 2 tbsp Chopped parsley, for garnish

Directions

Step 1

In a medium bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk. Let the mixture sit for about 5 minutes, so the breadcrumbs soak up the milk.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, soaked breadcrumbs, minced onion, garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, ground allspice, and ground nutmeg. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated, but don’t overmix to avoid dense meatballs.

Step 3

Using your hands or a tablespoon, roll the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter, placing them on a tray as you go.

Step 4

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Working in batches, if necessary, cook the meatballs, turning them occasionally, until browned on all sides and cooked through (about 6–8 minutes per batch). Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.

Step 5

In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1–2 minutes to form a roux.

Step 6

Slowly whisk in the beef broth, ensuring there are no lumps, followed by the heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce, and Dijon mustard. Simmer the gravy for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.

Step 7

Add the cooked meatballs back into the skillet, ensuring they are coated in the gravy. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes to heat through.

Step 8

Sprinkle with chopped parsley and serve hot over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for a complete meal.
