Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 piece large egg
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 0.5 cup sesame seeds

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels too dry, add the milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, to bring it together.

Step 6

Pour the sesame seeds into a shallow dish. Scoop a tablespoon of dough, roll it into a ball, and then roll the ball in the sesame seeds to coat it completely.

Step 7

Place the sesame-coated dough balls onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Step 8

Press each dough ball slightly with the palm of your hand to flatten it into a disc shape.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Rotate the baking sheet halfway through the baking time for even browning.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 11

Serve the cookies once cooled. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
