Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.33 cup granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup warm water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it begins to steam (do not boil). Remove it from heat and add the butter and sugar. Stir until melted and combined. Let the mixture cool to lukewarm (around 105-110°F).

Step 2

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water (about 105-110°F) and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, whisk the eggs. Add the lukewarm milk mixture and the foamy yeast mixture. Stir until well combined.

Step 4

Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Continue mixing until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and is soft but not sticky.

Step 5

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.

Step 6

Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Step 7

Punch down the dough to release the air. Turn it onto a lightly floured surface and divide it into two equal portions.

Step 8

Roll one portion into a 12-inch circle. Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice the circle into 8 equal triangles.

Step 9

Starting at the wide end of each triangle, roll tightly toward the tip to form a crescent shape. Repeat with the second portion of dough.

Step 10

Place the shaped rolls onto a parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them apart to allow for rising. Cover loosely with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.

Step 11

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 12

Brush the rolls with melted butter and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.

Step 13

Remove from the oven and let the rolls cool slightly. Brush with additional melted butter if desired for extra flavor and shine.

Step 14

Serve warm and enjoy!
