Ingredients

  • 2 cups Rolled oats
  • 1.5 cups Boiling water
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium Carrot, grated
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce
  • 0.5 cup Breadcrumbs
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil (for cooking)

Directions

Step 1

In a large heatproof bowl, combine the rolled oats and boiling water. Stir well and let it sit for 5-7 minutes to allow the oats to soften.

Step 2

While the oats are softening, prepare the vegetables. Finely chop the onion, grate the carrot, and mince the garlic.

Step 3

Once the oats have absorbed the water, stir in the chopped onion, grated carrot, and minced garlic.

Step 4

Add the soy sauce, breadcrumbs, egg, oregano, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is well combined and holds together.

Step 5

Using your hands, form the mixture into 6 evenly sized burger patties.

Step 6

Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil.

Step 7

Cook the patties in batches, frying for 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and heated through.

Step 8

Remove the patties from the skillet and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

Step 9

Serve immediately on burger buns with your favorite toppings, or enjoy them on their own with a side salad.
