Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup Brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 0.5 cup Molasses
  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Raisins
  • 0.5 cup Chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly grease them.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy using a hand mixer or stand mixer.

Step 3

Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the molasses until fully incorporated.

Step 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.

Step 5

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

Step 6

Fold in the raisins and walnuts (if using) with a spatula to evenly distribute them throughout the dough.

Step 7

Drop spoonfuls of dough (about 1 1/2 tablespoons each) onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie to allow for spreading.

Step 8

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers look slightly soft. Avoid overbaking to keep the cookies soft.

Step 9

Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 10

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
