Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium, diced yellow onion
  • 2 medium, diced carrots
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 3 medium, peeled and diced potatoes
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 pre-made or homemade, rolled out pie crust
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large, beaten egg

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

Peel and dice the potatoes, then place them in a pot of boiling water. Cook for 10-12 minutes or until tender. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and carrots, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.

Step 4

Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Step 5

Sprinkle the flour over the beef and vegetable mixture, stirring to coat evenly. Cook for 2 minutes to remove the raw flour taste.

Step 6

Stir in the beef broth, tomato paste, salt, pepper, and paprika. Allow the mixture to simmer and thicken for 4-5 minutes.

Step 7

Add the frozen peas and cooked potatoes to the skillet. Mix gently to combine. Remove the skillet from heat and let the filling cool slightly.

Step 8

Roll out your pie crust to fit your pie dish. Line the bottom of the dish with the crust, ensuring it covers the edges.

Step 9

Spoon the hamburger filling evenly into the pie crust. Top with the second layer of crust, sealing and crimping the edges together.

Step 10

Cut a few small slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg to ensure a golden, shiny finish.

Step 11

Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch any drips and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.

Step 12

Remove the pie from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
