Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 0.5 pound Ground Italian sausage
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil
  • 1 medium Yellow onion, diced
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 28 ounces Canned crushed tomatoes
  • 15 ounces Canned tomato sauce
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 1 cup Water
  • 2 teaspoons Granulated sugar
  • 1.5 teaspoons Dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoons Red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 0.25 cup Fresh parsley, chopped

Directions

Step 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and Italian sausage, breaking it up into small pieces. Cook for 5-7 minutes until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease and transfer the cooked meat to the crock pot.

Step 2

In the same skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant. Transfer the onion and garlic mixture to the crock pot.

Step 3

To the crock pot, add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and water. Stir until everything is well combined.

Step 4

Add the sugar, dried basil, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir again to incorporate the seasonings evenly throughout the sauce.

Step 5

Cover the crock pot with its lid and cook on low heat for 6 hours, stirring occasionally to ensure the flavors meld together.

Step 6

After 6 hours, taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if needed. Stir in the chopped fresh parsley just before serving.

Step 7

Serve hot over cooked spaghetti or your favorite pasta. Garnish with additional fresh parsley or grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
