Ingredients

  • 1 cup Whole milk
  • 3 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.333 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2.25 teaspoons Active dry yeast
  • 0.25 cup Warm water
  • 2 Large eggs
  • 4.5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons Cinnamon
  • 5 tablespoons Unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (for frosting)

Directions

Step 1

In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm (about 110°F). Remove from heat and stir in the butter and granulated sugar until the butter melts. Allow to cool to lukewarm.

Step 2

In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water. Let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the lukewarm milk mixture, yeast mixture, eggs, and salt. Gradually add in the flour, mixing until a dough forms.

Step 4

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic. Place it in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.

Step 5

Meanwhile, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl to prepare the filling.

Step 6

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a rectangle approximately 16x12 inches.

Step 7

Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the buttered surface.

Step 8

Starting from the longer edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the edges to seal, then cut the log into 12 even slices.

Step 9

Place the rolls into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish. Cover with a towel and let them rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.

Step 10

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Step 11

While the rolls bake, prepare the frosting by whisking together powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth. Adjust the consistency with a little more milk if needed.

Step 12

Remove the rolls from the oven and let them cool slightly before spreading the frosting over the top. Serve warm and enjoy Grandma's classic cinnamon rolls!
