Ingredients

  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups milk
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cups Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 0.5 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons black pepper
  • 0.75 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.

Step 2

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the fresh green beans and blanch them for 3-4 minutes until tender-crisp. Drain and set aside.

Step 3

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the all-purpose flour and whisk constantly for 1-2 minutes to make a roux.

Step 4

Gradually pour in the milk, whisking to combine. Cook and stir for 3-4 minutes until the mixture thickens into a smooth sauce.

Step 5

Reduce the heat to low and add the shredded cheddar cheese and grated Parmesan cheese. Stir until the cheese is completely melted and the sauce is creamy.

Step 6

Season the cheese sauce with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper, then remove it from the heat.

Step 7

In the prepared baking dish, combine the green beans and cheese sauce. Toss to coat the beans evenly.

Step 8

In a small bowl, mix the panko breadcrumbs with olive oil until the crumbs are slightly moistened.

Step 9

Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the green beans and cheese mixture.

Step 10

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.

Step 11

Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
