Ingredients

  • 2 large Granny Smith apples
  • 1 package (2 crusts) Refrigerated pie crusts
  • 0.5 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cup Brown sugar
  • 3 quarters Water
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk (optional, for brushing)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease an 8x8-inch baking dish.

Step 2

Peel and core the apples, then cut each apple into quarters. You should have 8 pieces total.

Step 3

Unroll the refrigerated pie crusts and cut them into 8 equal triangles.

Step 4

In a small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.

Step 5

Place an apple quarter at the wide end of each pie crust triangle. Sprinkle each apple piece with a generous pinch of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Step 6

Roll each apple piece in the pie crust triangle, starting from the wide end and rolling to the tip to enclose the apple completely.

Step 7

Arrange the wrapped apple dumplings snugly in the prepared baking dish, tip-side down.

Step 8

In a small saucepan over medium heat, combine the unsalted butter, brown sugar, water, and vanilla extract. Stir until the butter melts and the mixture becomes a syrup. Do not let it boil.

Step 9

Pour the syrup evenly over the dumplings in the baking dish.

Step 10

Optional: Lightly brush the tops of the dumplings with milk for a golden finish.

Step 11

Bake the dumplings in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the syrup is bubbling.

Step 12

Allow the apple dumplings to cool for 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
