Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium, diced yellow onion
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
  • 0.5 cup beef broth
  • 4 medium, peeled and quartered potatoes
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 0.25 teaspoon paprika

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it into crumbles. Drain any excess grease.

Step 3

Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the cooked beef. Sauté until the onions are translucent, about 3–4 minutes.

Step 4

Stir in the salt, black pepper, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Cook for 1 minute to combine the flavors.

Step 5

Add the frozen mixed vegetables and beef broth to the skillet. Stir well and simmer for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 6

Meanwhile, place the peeled and quartered potatoes in a large pot of salted water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are very tender.

Step 7

Drain the cooked potatoes and return them to the pot. Mash them using a potato masher or fork. Stir in the milk and butter until smooth and creamy. Season with a pinch of salt, if needed.

Step 8

In a lightly greased 9-inch pie dish or baking dish, spread the beef and vegetable mixture evenly at the bottom.

Step 9

Gently spoon or pipe the mashed potatoes over the beef mixture, spreading them evenly to form the top layer.

Step 10

Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes and lightly dust with paprika for color.

Step 11

Bake the hamburger pie in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.

Step 12

Let the pie rest for 5 minutes before serving. Slice into portions and enjoy!
