Ingredients

  • 2 pounds Russet potatoes
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • 0.5 cups Heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 6 cups Water

Directions

Step 1

Peel the potatoes and cut them into even-sized chunks, approximately 1.5-inch pieces to ensure uniform cooking.

Step 2

Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover with 6 cups of water. Add a pinch of salt to the water to season the potatoes as they cook.

Step 3

Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to a simmer. Cook the potatoes for 20-25 minutes or until they are fork-tender and easily pierced.

Step 4

While the potatoes are cooking, warm the heavy cream in a small saucepan over low heat. Melt the butter into the cream and stir to combine. Keep warm but do not boil.

Step 5

Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them in a colander. Let them sit in the colander for 2-3 minutes to allow excess moisture to steam off.

Step 6

Return the potatoes to the pot. Use a potato masher or a ricer to mash the potatoes until smooth and lump-free.

Step 7

Pour the warm cream and butter mixture over the potatoes. Stir gently to combine until the mixture is creamy and fully incorporated.

Step 8

Season with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

Step 9

Serve immediately as a side dish with your favorite main course. Enjoy!
