Ingredients

  • 12 pieces Lasagna sheets
  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 pound Ground Italian sausage
  • 1 medium, finely chopped Onion
  • 3 minced Garlic cloves
  • 28 ounces Crushed tomatoes
  • 6 ounces Tomato paste
  • 16 ounces Tomato sauce
  • 0.5 cups Water
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Dried basil
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1.5 teaspoons Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoons Black pepper
  • 15 ounces Ricotta cheese
  • 1 large Egg
  • 2 tablespoons, chopped Fresh parsley
  • 4 cups, shredded Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup, grated Parmesan cheese

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Step 2

In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef, sausage, and diced onion over medium heat until the meat is browned. Drain any excess fat.

Step 3

Add minced garlic and cook for 1 more minute until fragrant.

Step 4

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, tomato sauce, water, sugar, dried basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper. Let the mixture simmer on low heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 5

While the sauce is simmering, bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Cook the lasagna sheets according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and lay flat on a clean kitchen towel to prevent sticking.

Step 6

In a medium-sized bowl, mix the ricotta cheese, egg, and chopped parsley until well combined.

Step 7

Spread 1 1/2 cups of the meat sauce at the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 8

Arrange 4 lasagna sheets over the sauce, slightly overlapping.

Step 9

Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture over the lasagna sheets. Then sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese and 1/3 cup of grated Parmesan cheese over the ricotta layer.

Step 10

Repeat this layering process two more times: meat sauce, lasagna sheets, ricotta mixture, mozzarella, and Parmesan.

Step 11

For the final layer, spread the remaining meat sauce over the top and sprinkle the last of the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.

Step 12

Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil (non-stick foil or spray the foil with cooking spray to prevent the cheese from sticking).

Step 13

Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Then remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese on top is bubbling and golden brown.

Step 14

Let the lasagna rest for 15 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your multi-layered masterpiece!
