Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoons salt
  • 0.5 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cups sour cream
  • 0.75 cups brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 cups chopped walnuts (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar (for dusting)

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan and set aside.

Step 2

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar using a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Step 5

On low speed, alternately add the dry flour mixture and the sour cream to the butter mixture in three batches, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

Step 6

In a separate small bowl, make the crumble mixture by combining the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chopped walnuts (if using).

Step 7

Pour half of the cake batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle half of the crumble mixture over the batter.

Step 8

Gently pour and spread the remaining batter over the crumble layer, then top with the remaining crumble mixture.

Step 9

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Step 10

Remove from the oven and allow the cake to cool in the pan for 20 minutes.

Step 11

Dust the top of the cake with powdered sugar before serving. Slice and enjoy warm or at room temperature.
