Ingredients

  • 4 medium sweet potatoes
  • 3 medium golden apples
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 quarter cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.5 cup pecans (optional)
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish lightly with butter or non-stick spray.

Step 2

Peel the sweet potatoes and slice them into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Peel and core the golden apples, then slice them into 1/4-inch wedges.

Step 3

In a small saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Once melted, stir in the maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and salt until combined. Remove from heat and set aside.

Step 4

Arrange half of the sweet potato slices in an even layer across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Top with half of the apple slices.

Step 5

Drizzle half of the butter-maple mixture evenly over the layers. Repeat with the remaining sweet potatoes and apples, followed by the rest of the butter-maple mixture.

Step 6

If using pecans, sprinkle them evenly over the top of the dish.

Step 7

Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.

Step 8

Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the sweet potatoes are tender, the apples are soft, and the top is slightly caramelized.

Step 9

Remove from the oven and let sit for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm as a sweet side dish or dessert!
