Ingredients

  • 500 grams Ground pork
  • 50 grams Water chestnuts (diced)
  • 50 grams Carrot (finely grated)
  • 2 stalks Green onions (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons Gluten-free soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Rice wine (Shaoxing wine or substitute with dry sherry)
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Chinese five-spice powder
  • 2 tablespoons Potato starch (or cornstarch)
  • 2 large sheets Gluten-free dried beancurd sheets (often labeled as soybean sheets or yuba)
  • 200 ml Cooking oil (for shallow frying)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground pork, diced water chestnuts, grated carrot, chopped green onions, and minced garlic.

Step 2

Add the gluten-free soy sauce, rice wine, sesame oil, ground white pepper, Chinese five-spice powder, and potato starch to the mixture. Mix well until the ingredients are thoroughly combined and slightly sticky.

Step 3

Soak the gluten-free beancurd sheets in warm water for about 1-2 minutes until pliable. Drain excess water and pat dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.

Step 4

Place one beancurd sheet on a flat surface. Trim any hard edges if necessary. Scoop about 2-3 tablespoons of the meat mixture and shape it into a log (approximately 10 cm/4 inches long) near one edge of the sheet.

Step 5

Fold in the sides of the beancurd sheet, then roll it tightly around the meat mixture, forming a neat roll. Use a small amount of water to seal the edge. Repeat with the remaining meat mixture and beancurd sheets.

Step 6

Heat the cooking oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the meat rolls into the pan, seam side down.

Step 7

Shallow-fry the rolls for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are evenly golden brown and cooked through. Reduce the heat if necessary to prevent the beancurd sheets from burning.

Step 8

Remove the meat rolls from the pan and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels.

Step 9

Allow the rolls to cool slightly before slicing them into bite-sized pieces. Serve immediately with a dipping sauce of your choice, such as sweet chili sauce or a gluten-free soy-sesame dip.
