Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground beef (85% lean)
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Onion powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 tsp Ground black pepper
  • 1 cup Minced white onion
  • 8 Gluten-free slider buns
  • 4 slices American cheese (gluten-free certified)
  • 8 slices Pickle chips
  • 2 tbsp Butter (or dairy-free alternative)
  • 1 sheet Plastic wrap
  • 1 sheet Parchment paper

Directions

Step 1

Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly but handle the mixture gently to avoid overworking the meat.

Step 3

Place the meat mixture on a large piece of plastic wrap. Flatten it into a rectangle approximately 10x6 inches and about 1/4 inch thick. Cover with another layer of plastic wrap and refrigerate for 15 minutes to firm up.

Step 4

While the meat is chilling, sauté the minced onion. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until softened and lightly caramelized, about 8 minutes. Set aside.

Step 5

Remove the meat from the fridge and discard the plastic wrap. Cut the meat into 8 equal square patties using a knife or pizza cutter. Each patty should roughly match the size of the slider buns.

Step 6

Melt the remaining tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully transfer the patties to the skillet. Cook for about 2 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook for an additional 2 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.

Step 7

Place the cooked patties on the prepared baking sheet. Top each patty with a slice of American cheese (halved diagonally to fit the patties). Transfer to the oven for about 2 minutes, just until the cheese melts.

Step 8

Slice the gluten-free slider buns in half. If desired, toast them lightly in a clean, dry skillet for extra texture.

Step 9

To assemble, start by placing a cooked patty with melted cheese onto the bottom half of each bun. Add a spoonful of caramelized onions on top, followed by a pickle slice. Finish with the top half of the bun.

Step 10

Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Gluten-Free White Castle Sliders!
