Ingredients

  • 20 pieces Gluten-free dumpling wrappers
  • 250 grams Ground pork
  • 100 grams Shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 50 grams Water chestnuts, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons Green onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce, gluten-free
  • 1 tablespoon Shaoxing wine or dry sherry
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, grated
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon White pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon Carrot, finely grated

Directions

Step 1

In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, water chestnuts, green onion, soy sauce, Shaoxing wine, sesame oil, ginger, salt, white pepper, and cornstarch. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Step 2

Prepare a steaming apparatus by lining a bamboo steamer with parchment paper or cabbage leaves.

Step 3

To assemble the siumai, take one gluten-free dumpling wrapper and place it in the palm of your hand. Add about 1 tablespoon of the filling to the center of the wrapper.

Step 4

Gather the edges of the wrapper around the filling, gently squeezing to form a 'waist' but leaving the top exposed. Lightly tap the bottom on a surface to flatten it so the dumpling can stand upright.

Step 5

Top the exposed filling with a small amount of grated carrot for garnish and color.

Step 6

Place the dumplings in the prepared steamer, ensuring they don’t touch each other.

Step 7

Bring water to a boil in a pot under the steamer basket. Steam the dumplings over high heat for about 12-15 minutes, or until the filling is cooked through and firm to the touch.

Step 8

Carefully remove the steamer basket from the pot and let the siumai sit for a couple of minutes before serving.

Step 9

Serve the siumai hot with a side of gluten-free soy sauce or your choice of dipping sauce.
