Ingredients

  • 12 ounces Gluten-Free Penne Pasta
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 3 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 28 ounces Canned Crushed Tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Basil
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Oregano
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Freshly Ground Black Pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes
  • 8 Fresh Basil Leaves
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan Cheese

Directions

Step 1

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the gluten-free penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup of pasta water and then drain the pasta.

Step 2

While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Step 3

Mince the garlic cloves and dice the onion.

Step 4

Add the minced garlic and diced onion to the saucepan and sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the onion is translucent.

Step 5

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer.

Step 6

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce becomes too thick, add reserved pasta water a tablespoon at a time to reach desired consistency.

Step 7

Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Step 8

Add the cooked pasta to the saucepan and toss until the pasta is well coated with the tomato sauce.

Step 9

Transfer the pasta to serving plates. Tear fresh basil leaves and sprinkle over the top.

Step 10

Grate fresh Parmesan cheese over each serving before serving.
