Ingredients

  • 500 grams Gluten-Free Rice Cakes (Tteok)
  • 4 cups Water
  • 3 tablespoons Gluten-Free Gochujang (Korean Chili Paste)
  • 2 tablespoons Gluten-Free Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 3 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Sesame Oil
  • 3 stalks Green Onions, chopped
  • 100 grams Fish Cake, optional, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds

Directions

Step 1

If using frozen rice cakes, soak them in cold water for about 30 minutes to soften. If using fresh rice cakes, rinse them under cold water and drain.

Step 2

In a large pan or wok, add 4 cups of water and bring to a boil over medium heat.

Step 3

Once the water is boiling, add the softened rice cakes to the pan.

Step 4

Reduce the heat to medium-low and add the gluten-free gochujang, gluten-free soy sauce, sugar, and minced garlic. Stir well to combine the sauce ingredients.

Step 5

Let the mixture cook for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the rice cakes become soft and chewy.

Step 6

If adding fish cakes, stir them in after about 5 minutes of cooking.

Step 7

Once the rice cakes are nicely coated in the thick sauce, add the sesame oil and chopped green onions. Stir well to distribute.

Step 8

Garnish with sesame seeds before serving.

Step 9

Serve hot as a delicious main dish or a side to complement other Korean dishes.
