Ingredients

  • 500 grams Beef sirloin or ribeye
  • 60 ml Gluten-free soy sauce
  • 30 grams Brown sugar
  • 1 medium Asian pear, grated
  • 3 large Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame oil
  • 3 stalks Green onions, chopped
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 large Carrot, julienned
  • 1 medium White onion, thinly sliced
  • 30 ml Gluten-free rice wine (Mirin)

Directions

Step 1

Start by placing the beef sirloin or ribeye in the freezer for 30-40 minutes to firm it up. This will make it easier to slice thinly.

Step 2

Once firm, remove the beef from the freezer and slice it as thinly as possible, against the grain.

Step 3

In a large mixing bowl, combine the gluten-free soy sauce, brown sugar, grated Asian pear, minced garlic, minced ginger, sesame oil, chopped green onions, black pepper, and gluten-free rice wine. Mix well to create the marinade.

Step 4

Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring all slices are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat.

Step 5

Before cooking, prepare the julienned carrot and thinly sliced onion. Set aside.

Step 6

Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. If needed, add a small amount of oil to prevent sticking.

Step 7

Remove the beef from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off, and place it in the hot skillet or pan. Cook in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.

Step 8

Cook the beef for 2-3 minutes on each side until it is cooked through and caramelized. Add the carrots and onions halfway through cooking to allow them to soften slightly and absorb the flavors.

Step 9

Once the beef is cooked, transfer it to a serving platter.

Step 10

Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and additional chopped green onions if desired.

Step 11

Serve the Gluten-Free Bulgogi hot with steamed rice or lettuce wraps.
