Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds Ground elk meat
  • 0.5 cup Gluten-free oats
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (gluten-free)
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 4 pieces Gluten-free burger buns
  • 4 pieces Lettuce leaves
  • 1 medium Tomato, sliced
  • 4 pieces Cheddar cheese slices (optional)

Directions

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground elk meat, gluten-free oats, egg, gluten-free Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.

Step 2

Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape into patties about 1 inch thick.

Step 3

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 4

Once the skillet is hot, add the elk patties and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) and they are browned on the outside.

Step 5

If adding cheese, place a slice over each patty during the last minute of cooking. Cover with a lid to help melt the cheese.

Step 6

Toast the gluten-free buns on a griddle or in the oven until lightly golden.

Step 7

Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the elk patty, a slice of tomato, and the top half of the bun.

Step 8

Serve immediately with your choice of gluten-free condiments and sides.
